Help with this little thing in my novel?

The novel I'm writing takes place in fantasy story that takes place in an era similar to Victorian England at a boarding school that was originally for both boys and girls. I know that this is something that wouldn't ever happen in the real Victorian England, so I'm starting to question it. I'm thinking about making the one school into two and having the schools meet for certain lessons and events(such as etiquette and dance classes, events like teas and balls). The good side to having two schools is that I can divide the characters more easily and only focus on a few at a time. The bad side is that I have a male character that eventually becomes a love interest for the main character. They should need to see each other often and being at different schools wouldn't help. But they could also sneak out and see each other which would add interest....So what do you think? Coed, or no coed? If you could tell me why or why not that would be great :) Thanks a bunch and sorry if this doesn't make much sense, it's late where I am right now XP
