What can be done to fix a baterry eating remote?

We have a coby tftlcd 32in tv, and our remote won't work. We keep replacing the batteries, but the all die after a few minutes. We got numerous of universal remotes, and none would work, cause of wrong coeds. Does anyone know what we can do to fix the remote? If need be, we are going to buy a new one....Any ideas????
